Assist with Outreach
Organisation
StreetlightUK
Join our dedicated team of volunteers supporting women involved in on-street prostitution in the Enfield area. Our outreach takes place once a week every Thursday evening for two hours, starting at 9:30pm. During outreach, we offer women hot drinks, care packs, and a listening ear in a safe and non-judgmental space. Volunteers can commit to coming out weekly, every other week or once a month. We operate on a rota system and ask for a minimum commitment of six months, as building trust with the women we support takes time and consistency.
In addition to evening outreach, there are opportunities to get involved with daytime drop-ins and support projects. We also hold monthly online volunteer meetings to stay connected, share updates, and provide ongoing support and training. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an award-winning charity making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable women.
What skills do I need?
Volunteering for this role requires a range of compassionate and practical skills. Volunteers must have strong interpersonal and communication abilities, as building trust with women who may have experienced trauma, exploitation, or marginalisation is essential. A non-judgmental attitude, emotional resilience, and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries are key when offering support in sometimes unpredictable or challenging environments. Reliability, discretion, and cultural sensitivity are also crucial, as volunteers often work in teams and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, a good understanding of safeguarding principles, active listening skills, and a calm, empathetic presence are vital for ensuring both the safety of the women and the outreach team. Volunteers should also be comfortable working late hours and have a genuine passion for social justice and supporting vulnerable communities.
