Royal Gunpowder Mills
The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a 170 acre site protected for its’ industrial heritage and natural history. Almost the whole site is classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). We open to the public to share the exhibitions and offer tours and activities. We run a schools programme that fits with the history of the site and the National Curriculum. We offer hire space and interesting environments for filming. The charity’s aims are to protect, preserve and enhance the special aspects of the site and to share the story of the industrial and social history, the science and the nature. Family Activities The activities are designed around fun learning about the scientific, industrial and natural history of the site. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the preparation and running of the activities, which are on offer when RGM is open to the public. If you like to work with people of all ages and think you could demonstrate simple art/craft and interactive fun activities to enable our visitors to get the most from their experience at RGM you will enjoy this role. Guidance and training will be given.
What skills do I need?
We are looking for volunteers: – Ability to contribute as part of a team and individually. – With good people skills and an ability to maintain a professional manner. – Able to communicate politely and efficiently with all ages of visitors. – Interested in heritage, science and/or nature, and a desire to learn about the site. Tasks and responsibilities include: – Supporting the team to deliver workshop activities. – To assist with the running of family activities in the school holidays and/or weekend open days. – To take an active role in the preparation, setting up and clearing up of the rooms/areas and equipment. – To help create a fun and informative environment for the visitors. – Ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and other relevant policies.

Availability details
There is a rota for our open days, Volunteers offer their time and a rota is drawn up to best cover these days.
